What it tracks

The same limits you see with /status in the Codex CLI and on the Codex usage dashboard, without opening either.

Where you see it

Private by design

Your Codex sign-in stays in the Keychain on your device, and in iCloud Keychain if you turn on sync. Usage is requested directly from OpenAI by your device. Nowdex has no account to create and keeps no passwords or usage on its own servers.

Questions

How does the Codex usage tracker get my usage?

You sign in to the ChatGPT account you use for Codex in Nowdex once. Your device then asks OpenAI for your Codex usage directly. Credentials stay in your Keychain, and there is no Nowdex account or server in between.

Is this the same as the Codex usage dashboard?

It shows the same limits as the dashboard and /status: your 5-hour and weekly windows, their reset times, and reset credits when your plan has them. Nowdex keeps them on your Home Screen and menu bar so you do not have to open a page.

Does API usage count against my Codex limit?

No. Codex on a ChatGPT plan uses your plan’s limits. Codex with an API key is billed separately at API rates, so it does not appear in these numbers.

Is it free?

Nowdex is free to download, and the free version connects one account, which is enough for Codex alone. Pro unlocks more accounts and services. The Windows app is free.
