CodexBar for Windows: your options in 2026

CodexBar has no official Windows version. Here are the community ports, and how to see Codex, Claude, and Cursor limits in the Windows notification area with Nowdex.

CodexBar is the menu bar app many developers use to watch their Codex and Claude limits on a Mac. If you also work on a Windows PC, the obvious question is whether you can get the same thing there.

Short answer: CodexBar runs on macOS, with Linux builds, but there is no official Windows version. On Windows you can use a community port, or a native tracker such as Nowdex for Windows.

Is there an official CodexBar for Windows?

No. CodexBar is a macOS app, and its README also offers a Linux desktop app and a CLI for macOS and Linux. For Windows, the README has a “Looking for a Windows version?” section that points to community projects instead of an official build.

Community Windows ports

Two projects are listed in the CodexBar README. Both are maintained by their own authors, not by the CodexBar maintainer:

  • Win-CodexBar: a Windows tray app built from scratch, inspired by CodexBar.
  • CodexBar for Windows: a Windows tray app that runs the original CodexBar CLI through WSL2, so you need WSL2 set up.

If you want CodexBar’s long provider list and do not mind installing from GitHub or setting up WSL2, start there.

Nowdex: a native Windows alternative

Nowdex shows the same core numbers as CodexBar: how much of each plan is left and when it resets. On Windows it is a native app from the Microsoft Store, so there is no WSL, no CLI, and no GitHub download.

  • In the notification area. Select the Nowdex icon next to the clock to see every account and every limit, with reset times.
  • 13 services. Codex, Claude, Cursor, Grok, Antigravity, Kimi, GLM, MiniMax, DeepSeek, and more. Sign in with your browser, a device code, or an API key.
  • Reset notifications. Get a Windows notification when a usage limit starts over.
  • Token usage, too. The Usage page shows what your coding agents spent today, this week, and across the year, by provider and model. Token usage is powered by tokens.ci.
  • Private. Sign-ins are encrypted for your Windows user account and stored only on that PC. There is no Nowdex account and no Nowdex server in between.
  • Free. Windows 10 or later, x64 and Arm64.

Get Nowdex for Windows from the Microsoft Store.

Which one should you pick?

  • You need a provider that only CodexBar supports: try a community port.
  • You want a Store app that installs in one click and keeps itself up to date: Nowdex for Windows.
  • You also use an iPhone or Mac: Nowdex runs there too, with Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets and a Mac menu bar app. See CodexBar vs. ccusage vs. Nowdex for a fuller comparison.

FAQ

Is there a CodexBar for Windows?

Not an official one. CodexBar is a macOS app with Linux builds. Community ports exist, and Nowdex for Windows is a native alternative on the Microsoft Store.

Can I see Codex and Claude limits in the Windows taskbar?

Yes. Nowdex for Windows lives in the notification area next to the clock. Select its icon to see remaining Codex, Claude, and other limits with their reset times.

Do I need WSL to track Claude or Codex usage on Windows?

Not with Nowdex. It is a native Windows app and signs in to each service directly. Only ports that run the CodexBar CLI need WSL2.
