How to check your Cursor usage before you hit the limit
Where to see your Cursor usage — the dashboard's Spending tab, the editor, and a widget — plus how included usage, on-demand usage, and spend limits work.
Cursor plans come with a monthly amount of included usage. When it runs out, Cursor either stops you or starts billing on-demand usage, depending on your settings. So a Cursor usage check is really two questions: how much of this month’s usage is left, and what happens when it is gone?
The quick answer: open the Spending tab of your Cursor dashboard. To see it without opening anything, put Cursor on your iPhone Home Screen or Mac menu bar with Nowdex.
How Cursor counts usage
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Included usage | The usage that comes with your plan (Pro, Pro+, Ultra, or Teams). It resets every billing cycle and does not roll over. |
| Cursor models and other models | Cursor’s own models and Auto draw from a larger pool; third-party models are charged at each model’s API price. |
| On-demand usage | Usage beyond what is included, billed at the end of the month at the same rates. It is only used if you turn it on. |
| Spend limit | A cap on on-demand usage. When you reach it, on-demand usage stops until the next cycle or until you raise it. |
| Reset date | The start of your next billing cycle, when included usage refills. |
Cursor changes its plans and the amounts they include from time to time, so check your own dashboard for the current numbers instead of relying on a figure from a forum post.
1. In the browser: the Cursor dashboard
The Spending tab on cursor.com shows how much of your included usage you have used, what is left, any on-demand charges, and when the cycle resets. This is also where you turn on on-demand usage and set a spend limit. Spend alerts only notify you; the limit is what actually stops charges, and it can lag a little behind real usage.
2. In the editor
Cursor also shows your usage in its settings, and it displays a notification in the editor when you are close to or out of included usage. That is handy while you code, but by then you are usually in the middle of a task.
3. At a glance: Cursor on your iPhone and Mac
Nowdex reads your Cursor usage from your account and keeps it where you already look:
- iPhone and iPad widgets show your Auto and API usage as percentages, plus Grok Bot usage, with the reset time for the billing cycle.
- The Mac menu bar keeps the number you care about next to the clock.
- The Status screen lists every connected account, so Cursor sits next to Claude, Codex, and the rest. If one agent is running low, you can see at a glance which one still has room.
You connect your Cursor account once; there is no Nowdex account to create. Setup is in how to see your remaining usage on iPhone.
When Cursor usage is running low
- Switch to Auto or a Cursor model for routine work if a third-party model is eating your usage.
- Decide on on-demand usage before you need it: turn it on with a spend limit you are comfortable with, or leave it off and stop at the limit.
- Check the reset date. If the cycle resets in two days, waiting may be the cheapest option.
- Use another agent. If Claude or Codex has room, start the next task there. See how to check your Claude usage and how to check your Codex usage.
FAQ
How do I check my Cursor usage?
Open the Spending tab of your dashboard at cursor.com/dashboard/spending, or look in Cursor’s settings. To check from your phone or Mac without opening either, use a Nowdex widget or the menu bar.
When does Cursor usage reset?
Included usage resets at the start of each billing cycle, usually monthly. Unused usage does not carry over. On a team plan, everyone resets together on the team’s billing date.
What happens when I run out of Cursor usage?
Cursor shows a notification. If on-demand usage is on, you keep working and pay at the same rates, up to your spend limit. If it is off, you wait for the next cycle or upgrade your plan.
Can I see my Cursor usage on my iPhone?
Yes. Add a Nowdex widget to your Home Screen or Lock Screen to see your remaining Cursor usage and reset time without opening anything.
